Technologies
The technology stacks that we distribute and support are broadly focussed upon open provisioning within the OSGi framework and tools focussed on the Semantic Web:
Provisioning (Building upon Apache Felix and Apache ACE)
Provisioning - the mass deployment of software, content and other types of digital information (e.g. configuration data) is distinct from simple deployment because it deals with issues such as:
- Security
- Dynamic (or hot) install, uninstall
- Heterogeneous targets (multiple platforms which may be online or offline)
- Complexity – the complexity of the e.g. install/uninstall processes
- Customisation – customised deployment per target or group of targets
- Device and License Management

OSGI for Mobile Devices (EZdroid using Apache Felix and Apache ACE)
EZdroid – allows the development and provisioning of dynamic applications and services for mobile devices in standard Java. Our first implementation is Apache Felix on Android (which is also the world’s first implementation), soon to be available for other Linux-based platforms. To read more, visit our EZDroid website.
Semantic Technologies (Using Aduna, and Apache Lucene/ Solr)
Together with our partner ADUNA, we provide a range of technologies, solutions and support aimed at the Semantic Web. These technology products include:
- Aperture: flexible content and metadata extraction framework
- Cluster Map Library: powerful information visualization
- Sesame: cornerstone of the Semantic Web
- Spectacle: faceted navigation engine
Luminis is also active in the Apache projects Lucene and Solr and has considerable experience in applying these technologies.
